We are deeply saddened to communicate the death of Donald Hearn, Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida. He made countless contributions to optimization research and service to the optimization and operations research communities. He was a charter member of our Society, and the founding editor of our newsletter, OPTIMA, which he helmed for 17 years and 55 issues.
